MICROSOFT PAYS PROFESSORS
College professors now can make $200 per presentation if they mention any Microsoft product. Microsoft sends the professor a check after receiving a form documenting his/her reference of one or more of Microsoft's products in their lecture. Microsoft claims that this practice can not be considered bribery because of the small amount of money involved. (Source: Computerworld, 5/18/98)

COUNTIES WITH THE MOST INTERNET HOSTS
As you would expect, many of the Internet hosts in the U.S. can be found in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Other regions of the county are also represented as shown in a recent study by Matrix Information and Directory Services of Austin, Texas. The following is a list of the ten counties with the most Internet hosts per 1,000 population. The largest city has been included as a point of reference. The number one county with 431 host is San Mateo (San Mateo) California, Santa Clara (San Jose) California, Fairfax (Alexandria & Washington D.C.) Virginia, Washtenaw (Ann Arbor) Michigan, St. Louis (St. Louis) Missouri, Middlesex (Boston) Massachusetts, Travis (Austin) Texas, San Francisco (San Francisco) California, Hennepin (Minneapolis & St. Paul) Minnesota and Fulton (Atlanta) Georgia. AREA CODES
Most experts believe that our phone system will run out of area codes by the year 2025. There were 86 area codes when the system was first put into place in 1947. Now there are 194 area codes with an additional 30 to 40 codes to be assigned in the next two years. Demand for the additional codes is fueled by the competition from new phone carriers, fax machines and PCs connected to the Internet. The solution under consideration is to change the phone numbers from 10 to 12 digits. (Source: Computerworld, 5/4/98)
