THE SOFTWARE HAS CRASHED!!!
Software crashes are frustrating to everyone and may threaten the future of the organization. Software applications critical to the operations of a business can and occasionally do crash. It is estimated that a brokerage operation could lose up to US$6.45 million for each hour that its critical mission software is not functioning. Other big losers, on a per hour basis, include: credit card authorizations US$2.6, home shopping TV US$113,000, airline reservations US$89,500 and ATM fees US$14,500. 56Kbps MODEMS
Thinking of buying a 56Kbps modem to speed up your access to the Internet? Before making your purchase, you may want to check with your Internet service provider to see which of the competing 56Kbps modems they are supporting. Unfortunately for the consumer, the four major 56Kbps developers are moving ahead with the modems with their own proprietary standards. As a result, compatibility among the current 56Kbps modems is not guaranteed. Agreement on the modem standards are not expected until June of 1997. (Source: LAN Times,11/25/1996).

INTEL
Intel recently reduced the prices of its Pentium Pro processors. The price reductions range from 3.5% for the 200MHz to 11.2% for the 180MHz processors. The price reductions may not immediately reach the consumer as a number of the processors are in short supply at the current time. (Source: Infoworld,11/11/1996).

Looking for more information about the Internet and how to use it? Let the Internet help you. Global Village's Internet Tour, CyberCourse and the Interactive Guide to the Internet are sites that may be of interest to those new to the Internet. Intermediate Internet users may find Ask Dr. Internet to be more to their needs.

The Interactive Guide to the Internet is different from the other sites as it offers a free Windows based presentation on the Internet. (Source: PC Week, 10/28/1996).
